Journal Entry 7.19.23 - The Sacrifice

Hey guys! I hope summer's going well for all of you!!

I just put out this new song called "The Sacrifice" on my YouTube Channel. This one took me awhile to find the words, but from the beginning the theme was based off of Christ's sacrifice for us and how that is the ultimate symbol of love for us. (link: https://youtu.be/jDMn1_fLXwA )

The whole song is kind of a different format than your standard 'Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Chorus'.

The little stanza at the beginning is also repeated later on, almost like it's introduced that way and then concluded in the same way but a deeper meaning because of everything that went on in the middle of the song.

Starting out as a request to be clean, to be set free from the sin, the song changes directions to ask the question, what is the sacrifice that Christ paid for me, that I might me made clean? Listing how he lived, bled, and died all for me, all to pay the price for me to be clean. Then, it transitions to how I can't grasp how He did something like that for me, when I fail so often and stumble so much. When it really all comes down to the truth that the reason He sacrificed Himself was purely for us, because He loves us. And He shed His blood for us, because He truly and genuinely loves us, expecting nothing in return.

This is why the image of Him washing me clean, and free from every stain, is so incredibly beautiful, because He has done all of it out of His love for me. That is why he sacrificed Himself for me, and for you, and every other human being to walk this earth.

And what a blessing it is to be loved by Him.

Here's the lyrics:

The Sacrifice

would you take me to the river

and wash me

oh, cleanse me

free from every stain

free, I can breathe again

oh what is this sacrifice

that you have paid

for me?

you came, you bled, and you died

to bear the pain, to pay the price

I still can’t grasp the reason

I don’t understand why you held on

to see me through all of my stumbling steps

to pick me up, when I’ve got nothing left

why don’t you just let this lost cause go?

but you said

I love you and I’m never letting go

by my blood

I’m holding on

oh

so what is this sacrifice

if not for love

for us

so you

took me to the river

and washed me

you cleansed me

free from every stain

free, I can breathe again

I love you, and I’m never letting go

by my sacrifice

I will hold on

~
