Journal Entry #2 - Look How Far You've Come

Here's a new song!

Look How Far You’ve Come

Don’t lose heart, dear child

Catch your breath, it’s been awhile

Since you’ve looked up from the footprints

Look up and see the distance

You’ve climbed

Look how far you’ve come

From the beginning, from the very start

Look at what he’s done in your life

If you’ve ever thought

That you might not make it home

Keep your step, look ahead

And if you feel faint

Remember where your strength comes from

Look how far you’ve come

From the beginning, from the very start

Look at what he’s done in your life

I can see it in your eyes

You’re craving something more beyond this life

And you’re getting there

You’ll get there

Through every single

Step of the way

Every turn, every day

Look how far you’ve come

From the beginning, from the very start

Look at what he’s done in your life

In his love he’s won

In his love he’s won you with his life

He’ll finish what he started

He’s finishing what he started

In you

(the song starts at 2:45)

This one was originally a piano song, but I found I enjoyed playing it on my Ukulele more so that's what I did!

It started in two different parts: the title and then the instrumental part. The idea/theme for "Look How Far You've Come" came when I was sitting in church one morning thinking about how often it is to get discouraged in this walk with Christ, because sometimes it feels so long and you don't want to take the next step. I wrote this to uplift those who need encouragement, a reminder to look at where you've come from and see how much you've grown, to see how far God has brought you. Not just that, but where he's taking you to: home.

The other part of this song, the instrumental part, came up as I was practicing piano one morning and rolled a chord in the song which wasn't supposed to be rolled, just played all together. Then I got on a little rabbit trail of playing that chord which led to another, and another... and then the words slowly found their place alongside the chords.
